Starting it off with a bang(le)!

So we’re about to host our very first workshop, and we’re kicking off with a…

jewelry making workshop…

And some of you might be thinking, “that’s cool, but how could coming to a jewelry workshop benefit me?” And you’re not wrong to ask that question.

We could have started with an interview skills session or a parenting class or even a painting course.

But we wanted to start with something creative, something hands-on, something that allows space for good conversation and light-hearted fun.

We have been intentionally trying to curate a space where people feel welcome- a place where they feel comfortable trying something new.

And when I think of someone who is particularly good at making people feel included, seen, empowered, I immediately think of Rhashida Bess. She was at our very first meet and greet back in August 2023. I remember being so inspired by her insight and appreciative of her feedback.

And for those of you who don’t know, Rhashida is an incredible artist. Her jewelry is stunning and original. She has immense talent, but she’s also a gifted teacher. And so asking her to help facilitate our inaugural workshop felt natural. More than that, it felt meaningful.

As the CCC has taken shape, I have realized something pretty obvious, but essential just the same.

It takes a community to build a community.

I’ve been working on how to phrase that for months now, and I’m certain there’s a more eloquent way to say it, but the gist is that we have not been building this thing alone. And we’re not intending to build it for ourselves. So we want to honor the people who have supported this effort from the very beginning.

In this way, it feels fitting that we would launch our programs by way of a jewelry making class.

But…

If you still have doubts (which we will always make space for at the CCC), let me offer some more practical reasons as to why signing up for this workshop would be worthwhile.

Possible benefits of participating in the June is for Jewelry workshop on June 13th:

1.     You might discover a new talent.

2.     You might make a new friend.

3.     You might see how making art can be a form of self-care.

4.     You will allow your brain to be stimulated in a different way.

5.     You might grow in confidence.

6.     You might enjoy connecting with others.

7.     You might appreciate doing something out of the ordinary.

8.     You can make a piece of jewelry to give as a gift to a loved one and still have one to keep for yourself!

So there’s eight reasons to come hang with us on June 13th from 6:30-8:30. Supplies will be provided. You don’t need to bring anything but your ticket (the QR code on your phone will suffice) and a desire to learn alongside others. We’ll have 3 jewelry makers on site that evening. It will be a relaxed learning experience. There's just a couple of seats left, so snag yours here. We can’t wait to see you there!
